June 22, 1969: Judy Garland died of a barbiturate overdose aged 47.

Judy Garland signed a movie contract with MGM at the age of 13. In 1939, she scored one of her greatest on-screen successes with The Wizard of Oz. In 1950, MGM dropped her from her contract.

Music History Today: June 10, 2023

June 10, 1922: Actress and singer Judy Garland was born Frances Ethel Gumm in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
With her two older sisters, Judy Garland began performing as part of the Gumm Sisters. The Gumm sisters became the Garland sisters at the World's Fair in Chicago in 1934. The following year, she would become a solo act, signing a movie contract with MGM at 13. In 1939, Garland scored one of her greatest on-screen successes with The Wizard of Oz. She received a special Academy Award for portraying Dorothy, the girl from Kansas transported to Oz.

"Time, Love and Tenderness" was written by Diane Warren, one of the most successful songwriters of her era. She also wrote Michael Bolton's "When I'm Back On My Feet Again," a hit from his previous album.

November 22, 1997: INXS front-man Michael Hutchence was found dead at age 37 in his Sydney hotel suite.
Michael Hutchence was found naked, kneeling, and facing his hotel room door with his belt secured to the automatic enclosure and tied around his neck. It appeared he’d died of an apparent suicide.
