November 28, 2000: David Bowie was crowned the musician's musician. Bowie beat The Beatles and alternative rockers Radiohead in a survey by the NME that asked hundreds of top rock and pop stars to name their biggest musical influence.

Music History Today: October 3, 2021

October 3, 1981: Two months after MTV's debut, Blue Öyster Cult's "Burnin' For You" reaches its peak of number 40 in the US thanks to a video shot in a Los Angeles culvert. 

"Burnin' for You" by Blue Öyster Cult was released as the lead single from the band's eighth studio album, Fire of Unknown Origin.

April 9, 1977: ABBA earned their only number 1 hit in the United States when "Dancing Queen" went to the top.

Dancing Queen was the lead single from Abba’s fourth album, Arrival. Released in the summer of 1976, it got to No 1 in 15 countries including the UK (where it stayed at the top for five weeks) and the US.

February 6, 1945: Bob Marley was born Nesta Robert Marley in Jamaica. 

Robert Nesta Marley was born in a small rural Jamaican village called Nine Miles. His father was a white man, Capt. Norval Marley, a superintendent of lands for the British government, which had colonized Jamaica in the 1660s.

September 4, 1976: KISS releases the Soft-Rock ballad, "Beth," which will rise to Number 7 and become their only US Top 10 hit. 
Though KISS have cranked out their fair share of hard-rocking anthems over the years, the band's 1976 ballad "Beth" remains the highest-charting song of their career.
