May 20, 2006: "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley entered the Billboard Hot 100 single's chart.

Gnarles Barkley is the brainchild of singer CeeLo Green and producer Danger Mouse. The duo released their debut album, St. Elsewhere, in 2006 and the lead single was “Crazy.”

December 23, 1978:  The Talking Heads' first hit, a cover of Al Green's "Take Me to the River," entered the American Top 40.
After Talking Heads established themselves on the vanguard of New Wave with their debut album, Talking Heads '77, the group's choice of an Al Green song to cover was a surprise.

January 15, 1972: Don McLean's "American Pie" hit Number 1 in the US for the first of four weeks.

Don McLean outlined his lifelong struggle with having written “American Pie” and described it as a “biographical song.” He revealed that his favorite part of the work is its structure, rather than the lyrics that have come to represent an entire musical era.
