May 11, 2002: Pink's hit "Don't Let Me Get Me" peaked at Number 8 on the US music chart.
"Don't Let Me Get Me" was released as the second single from Pink's second studio album, Missundaztood.

It became her fifth single to chart within the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100. Outside the US, the song became Pink's second consecutive number-one single in New Zealand and reached the top ten in 14 other countries, including Australia, Ireland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

May 11, 1981: The original London production of Cats opened in the West End.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats premiered on May 11, 1981 at the New London Theatre.

The earliest drafts of the musical were written with the sole intention of strengthening Webber's skills as a composer. Using one of his favorite books from childhood, T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, Webber wrote the music as a challenge to craft original melodies for previously penned poems.

May 11, 1961: American jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald recorded at the Crescendo Club in Hollywood, Los Angeles, over the next ten nights.  Twelve Nights in Hollywood, a 2009 live album, uses these tracks.



May 11, 1968: The Four Tops blasted into Billboard's Top 40 section, from Number 69 to 36, with "If I Were a Carpenter."
"If I Were a Carpenter." was written by the folk singer Tim Hardin, who performed it at Woodstock in 1969. Hardin wrote "Reason To Believe" and some other songs that became popular for other artists. He dealt with drug problems and died in 1980 at age 39.

May 11, 1985: Survivor moved into Billboard's American Top 40 with "The Search is Over."
Where did Survivor's soaring power ballad "The Search Is Over" come from? It's partly a mystery. The group's Jim Peterik — who penned the tune with bandmate Frankie Sullivan — believes the title came from something he heard on a news broadcast.
