March 31, 2007: Amy Winehouse debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 chart with "Rehab."

The tale of Amy Winehouse remains one that is hard to reconcile.

Every question mark remains hard to answer and every pointed finger remains questionable, the only certainty is the sad tragedy that her avoidable death represents. There were many portents along the way but none more obvious than the song ‘Rehab’, a track that literally forecasted her demise in a catastrophically ironic fashion.

March 31, 1973: "Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)" from the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, performed by Deodato, peaked at Number 2 in the US Top 10 single's chart.

Eumir Deodato Almeida's singular rendition of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" won the 1973 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. It is arguably the world's most renowned Latin jazz opus ever.

The introductory movement of the original work, a tone poem by Richard Strauss (1896), served as the musical motif in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film, "2001: A Space Odyssey." Deodato's arrangement wondrously elaborates on the movie's modernistic theme.

March 31, 1979: Melissa Manchester's "Don't Cry Out Loud" topped out at Number 10 on the US single's chart. 

"Don't Cry Out Loud," written by Peter Allen with lyricist Carole Bayer Sager, is best known as a hit single for Melissa Manchester in the US.

According to Arista Records president Clive Davis, Melissa Manchester recorded "Don't Cry Out Loud" at his strong suggestion as Davis felt that Manchester's intended 1979 album release lacked a potential Top 40 comeback hit.

March 31, 1984: The Romantics had another American Top 40 when "One In a Million" moved from Number 43 to 40 on this date.

In Heat, the fourth album by The Romantics, was the Romantics' most commercially successful LP. It featured their biggest hit single: "Talking in Your Sleep", which peaked at #3, and a second top 40 hit, "One in a Million", charted #37.

March 31, 2001:  Eden’s Crush debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the Top 10, at Number 8, with "Get Over Yourself."

"Get Over Yourself" by Eden's Crush was released as the first single from their debut album, Popstars (2001). It holds the distinction of making Eden's Crush the first female group to lead the sales chart with a debut single, reaching number eight in the United States and number one in Canada. Billboard named the song number 81 on their list of the "100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time."
