Music History Today: May 25, 2023

May 25, 1969: The movie "Midnight Cowboy" based on the 1965 novel of the same name was released.
"Midnight Cowboy" is the only film rated X or NC-17 to win an Oscar for Best Picture. A gritty, bleak look at the underbelly of urban American life, Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight's performances make it difficult to turn away.

The guitarist for Blink-182, Tom DeLonge, wrote "All the Small Things" for his girlfriend after she complained that he always writes songs about other girls.

November 9, 1973: Billy Joel released his breakthrough album, "Piano Man." 

Piano Man proved to be the first Billy Joel album to gain any real traction on the charts. It broke the Billboard Top 30 in 1974. But it would take him several more years before he'd really become a household name with 1977's The Stranger.
