September 19, 1981: Thanks to MTV airplay for the lead single "Start Me Up," The Rolling Stones album "Tattoo You" started a nine-week run at Number 1 on the US album chart.

September 19, 1943: Cass Elliott was born Ellen Naomi Cohen in Baltimore, Maryland.
September 19, 1943: Cass Elliott was born Ellen Naomi Cohen in Baltimore, Maryland. Cass Elliot, better known as "Mama Cass," became a folk singer in 1963.

In 1965, she formed The Mamas and the Papas, becoming an overnight success. After the band broke up in 1968, Elliot had some success as a solo act, but died suddenly from heart failure, at the age of 32.

September 19, 1970: "Patches" by Clarence Carter peaked at Number 4 on the US music chart. 
"Patches" (sometimes known as "Patches (I'm Depending On You)") is a country soul song written by General Johnson and Ron Dunbar and best known in the 1970 hit version by Clarence Carter. It won the 1971 Grammy Award for Best Rhythm & Blues Song.

September 19, 1992: Shakespear’s Sister topped out at Number 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart with "Stay."

Shakespears' Sister were formed in 1988 by singer–songwriter Siobhan Fahey, a former member of Bananarama. Initially a solo act, a year later it become a duo with the addition of American artist Marcella Detroit. Together, they released two top 10 albums and various top 40 hits. Read more: Smooth Radio
