Music History Today: April 20, 2022

April 20, 1992: David Bowie performed at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium. Footage of that show and a 1986 Queen concert at Wembley were spliced together for a remix of "Under Pressure" to promote Queen's Greatest Hits III compilation album.

April 20, 1963: "The Bird's the Word" by The Rivingtons entered Billboard's Hot 100 single's chart. 
The Rivingtons had originally been known as The Sharps. They appeared on Duane Eddy's 1958 hit "Rebel Rouser", providing the handclaps and rebel yells. Their first hit as the Rivingtons was "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow." They returned to the charts the following year with "The Bird's the Word."

April 20, 1970: The single "Cinnamon Girl" by Neil Young and Crazy Horse was released.
If it weren’t for Neil Young’s 1969 album, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere; grunge music probably would never have happened during the early 1990s.

 On this record, Neil Young tuned his guitar to double drop D —both the high and low E strings were tuned down to D — coupled with heavy distortion, Young helped revolutionize a gritty and heavy sound.

April 20, 1974:  The Guess Who had another American Top 40 hit when "Star Baby" reached Number 39. 
"Star Baby" was written by Guess Who lead singer Burton Cummings. Cummings would often describe this song as "straight-ahead, toe-tapping rock and roll" before performing it in concert.

The song was never a huge national hit, but did well in many markets, including Chicago, where the radio station WLS have it heavy airplay and ranked the song as the 37th most popular hit of 1974.

April 20, 1985: Bryan Adams' "Heaven" debuted nearly halfway up Billboard's Hot 100 chart at Number 52.
"Heaven" was a No. 1 hit for Bryan Adams on the Billboard Hot 100. It originally appeared on the soundtrack for the movie A Night in Heaven, and Adams subsequently included the song on his own Reckless album from 1984.
