February 26, 1994: "Linger" by The Cranberries topped out at Number 8 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart.

In 1993, The Cranberries had released their second single, “Linger,” to a disappointing response in the UK.

Just when the band feared they were about to be dropped by the label, “Linger” became a surprise sensation in the US. From that moment, The Cranberries were on their way to becoming one of the most important indie-pop bands of the decade.

February 26, 1961: The Ramrods made it into the American Top 40 when they moved from Number 43 to 30 with "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky."

"(Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend" is a cowboy-styled country/western song written in 1948 by American songwriter, film and television actor Stan Jones. The Ramrods released an instrumental rock version in 1961 with eerie and evocative overdubbed shouts, whistles and cattle calls. The record was made a "Pick of the Week" by Cash Box, and rose to No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 8 on the UK singles chart.

February 26, 1966: Herman’s Hermits made a big move into the American Top 40, from Number 41 to 13, with "Listen People."

It was featured on their 1966 album, Volume 2: The Best of Herman's Hermits. It reached #1 in Canada, #3 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Australian charts, and #7 on both the New Zealand and Swedish charts.

February 26, 1972: The instrumental "Joy" by Apollo 100 made it to Number 6 on the US music chart.

"Joy" by Apollo 100 is a contemporary rendition of a 1723 composition by Johann Sebastian Bach entitled "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring", shortened to simply "Joy". It ranked the 71st biggest U.S. hit of 1972.

February 26, 1977:  The Atlanta Rhythm Section, at Number 37. entered the American Top 40 chart with "So in to You." 

After a string of modest hits, "So In To You" was a breakthrough for the Atlanta Rhythm Section, a group which was formed in 1970 consisting mainly of former members of Classics IV and The Candymen.

The group was highly popular in the Southern states, less so nationwide. Still, they are considered pioneers of southern rock and retained a loyal following, performing at festivals into the 2010s.
