May 9, 1992: Genesis blasted from Number 79 to 44 the second week on the chart with "Hold On My Heart."

"Hold on My Heart" by Genesis was released as the album's third single from their 14th studio album, We Can't Dance..

The song reached number one on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, as well as number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the band's home country, the song peaked at number 16 on the UK Singles Chart.

May 9, 1964: Dusty Springfield's "Stay Awhile" peaked just inside the American Top 40 at Number 38.

"Stay Awhile" was the second single from  Dusty Springfield's LP, Stay Awhile/I Only Want to Be with You. It became a top 20 hit in the United Kingdom, and reached the top 40 in Australia and the U.S.

May 9, 1970: "Reflections of My Life" by Marmalade topped out at Number 10 on the US music chart.

Marmalade were a Scottish band, in fact the first Scottish band to top the UK charts when their cover of “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” went to number one in 1969.

 That year they changed record companies and were given a bit more artistic freedom. Which is just as well, because one of their early studio sessions for Decca Records produced “Reflections Of My Life” which went on to become Marmalade’s biggest worldwide chart success.

May 9, 1981: Eric Clapton made it to Number 10 in the US with "I Can't Stand It."
Eric Clapton added some new members to his band before recording "I Can't Stand It," including Albert Lee on guitar and Gary Brooker, formerly of Procol Harum, on keyboards. The band lasted only one album, but Clapton remained good friends with Brooker.

May 9, 1987: "Fascinated" by Company B inched from Number 42 to 39 into the American Top 40 single chart.
"Fascinated" was the first single released off girl group Company B's 1987 self-titled debut album.

 The song topped the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in March 1987 and remained there for four weeks. Soon after, the single was picked up by Top 40 radio and charted on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #21. It became Company B's most successful hit single in the U.S.
