January 26, 1988: Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera debuts on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre after a successful run on London's West End.

The longest-running show in Broadway history, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera debuted in 1988, winning seven Tony Awards® including Best Musical.

Based on Gaston Leroux’s horror novel, it tells the enticing story of the Phantom, who haunts the stage of the Paris Opera and subsequently falls in love with a beautiful young soprano.

January 26, 1963: The Four Seasons entered the American Top 40 with "Walk Like a Man."

"Walk Like a Man" features the counterpoint of Nick Massi's bass voice and the falsetto of lead singer Frankie Valli. It was their third number one hit, initially reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 on March 2, 1963, remaining there for three weeks.

January 26, 1974: "Sunshine on My Shoulders" by  John Denver enters the US Top 100 chart.

"Sunshine On My Shoulders" was John Denver's first No. 1 hit, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1974.

When writing the song, he was trying to write a sad, melancholic tune. "I was so down I wanted to write a feeling-blue song," he told Seventeen magazine, "[but] this is what came out."

January 26, 1980: Patrice Rushen enters the Billboard Hot 100 at Number 86 with "Haven't You Heard."

"Haven't You Heard" by Patrice Rushen became her first international hit. The song reached #42 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and #7 R&B. It also reached #62 in the UK.

January 26, 1992: Double You released their cover of KC & the Sunshine Band's "Please Don't Go."

"Please Don't Go" was KC & The Sunshine Band's first love ballad, and the last of their incredible five #1 hits in the United States. In 1992 a dance version of the song was recorded by the Eurodance group Double You and was a major worldwide hit.
