December 3, 1964: The animated TV special Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, based on the 1949 song, debuts on CBS with Burl Ives as the voice of Sam the Snowman. The show became a perennial favorite.

December 3, 1948: Ozzie Osbourne was born John Michael Osbourne in Birmingham, England.

After his success with Black Sabbath, in 1979 Ozzie Osbourne quickly launched a solo career.

 His solo debut album, Blizzard of Ozz, that was a resounding commercial success. Featuring the singles “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley,” the record reached the Top 10 in the United Kingdom and Number 21 in the United States.

December 3, 1965: The Beatles released their sixth studio album, Rubber Soul.

While the Beatles still largely stuck to love songs on Rubber Soul, the lyrics represented a quantum leap in terms of thoughtfulness, maturity, and complex ambiguities.

Musically, too, it was a substantial leap forward. The group and George Martin were also beginning to expand the conventional instrumental parameters of the rock group, using a sitar on "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)."

December 3, 1988: Tone Loc's "Wild Thing" blasted from Number 92 to 40 on Billboard's Hot 100.

Tone Loc's "Wild Thing" was the first rap song by a black artist to crossover to pop radio, and also the first rap single to be certified Platinum (Tone-Loc's "Funky Cold Medina" was the second). The Beastie Boys crossed over the year before with "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party)."

December 3, 1984: Wham! released the single "Last Christmas."

In December 1984, two future seasonal staples were vying for Christmas No 1: Do They Know It’s Christmas? by charity supergroup Band Aid, and Last Christmas by Wham!.

George Michael not only sang on the Band Aid single, but also donated the royalties from Last Christmas to the same cause. Band Aid’s victory meant that one of the most beloved and brilliant festive songs never reached Number 1.
