November 16,  2006: Queen's Greatest Hits is declared the most popular album in Britain, with more than 5.5 million units sold. The Beatles come in second with Sgt. Pepper.

November 16, 1967: The movie Valley of the Dolls premiered in Genoa, Italy.
The film version of Jacqueline Susann's best-selling novel, Valley of the Dolls, chronicles the rise and fall of three young women in show business.

Starring  Barbara Parkins, Patty Duke and Paul Burke, the movie was a box office success, Valley of the Dolls received largely negative reviews from critics upon release. Dionne Warwick provided the theme song.

November 16, 1974: Reunion peaked at Number 8 on Billboard's Hot 100 with "Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)." 
Reunion was founded by songwriters Paul DiFranco and Norman Dolph. Of "Life Is a Rock," DiFranco told Billboard: "The machine-gun vocal delivery," , "is a result of no rehearsing whatsoever. The key was to read the lines rapidly and not to memorize them at all."

November 16, 1985: Stevie Nicks debuted highest this week on Billboard, at Number 66, with "Talk to Me." 
According to the liner notes in TimeSpace, Stevie Nicks said about "Talk to Me": "This was a hard song to sing.

 It took a long time to finish it though. I couldn't quite get the right feeling. One night, Jim Keltner came in to do some drum overdubs and stayed as an audience, to push me a little. I had someone to sing to, and I got the vocal."

November 16, 1996: R.E.M. entered Billboard's Hot 100 at Number 53 with "Bittersweet Me."
Issued on September 9, 1996, New Adventures In Hi-Fi debuted at No.2 on the US Billboard 200 and shot straight to No.1 in the UK. In addition, the LP spawned a trio of Top 30 hits in the UK and eventually sold over five million copies worldwide.
