Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend: Take Five

1. This song was written for the Broadway production of Gentleman Prefer Blondes, first performed by Carol Channing in 1949. Ethel Merman recorded it the following year.

2. The most iconic performance is Marilyn Monroe's in the 1953 film version of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Her own voice was used for most of the song, but some rough patches were dubbed over.

3. Several artists have emulated Marilyn's performance. Madonna copied the attire and set design for her "Material Girl" video. Anna Nicole Smith channeled Marilyn for her "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" single.

4. Australian Pop singer Kylie Minogue covered the song in 1995 and in 2004 for the film White Diamond. Nicole Kidman sang a modified version called "Sparkling Diamonds" for Moulin Rouge! in 2001.

5. The song has also been borrowed by Jazz singers Lena Horne, Eartha Kitt, and 
Julie London.
